Toter 96-gallon Fully Automated, Bear Resistant Carts Receive IGBC Certification

March 11, 2025

CHARLOTTE, NC, March 11, 2025 — Toter, the leading North American provider of collection carts and containers for waste haulers and municipalities, today announced that its 96-gallon Fully Automated Bear Resistant Carts have received certification from the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC). The certification confirms the product meets rigorous standards required to withstand grizzly bear intrusion attempts, ensuring the safety of both wildlife and communities.

The IGBC certification process involved filling the carts with food and applying attractants to their exteriors to entice grizzly bears. The carts successfully withstood bear attempts for one hour without any access to the contents, demonstrating their effectiveness.

"Achieving this certification elevates our 96-gallon carts to the next level—it's not only a claim of bear resistance; it's backed by rigorous testing," said Lexi Knief, product manager for Toter, a Wastequip brand. "Our Bear Resistant Carts deliver dependable performance for customers while offering affordable options for communities aiming to secure their waste management systems against wildlife."

Features include:

  • Improved routing and collection efficiencies due to compatibility with both fully automated and semi-automated applications.
  • A safe and robust design makes carts easy to maneuver, yet extremely difficult for bears to compromise.
  • Enhanced strength due to structural capabilities like a Rugged Rim and sealed stop bar journals.
  • A ready-to-roll design with lids, locks, stop bars and bodies all fully assembled upon delivery.
  • Double-walled lid, beefier handle and hinge, and minimized pry points, which makes them tough enough to withstand the strongest claws and jaws.
